PR firm launches management consulting practice

Schnake Turnbo Frank PR on Wednesday launched a management consulting practice that will be led by Aaron Fulkerson, formerly a partner with Gabbard & Co.

Fulkerson will serve as executive vice president and chief administrative officer for the firm. The consulting practice will focus on strategy and leadership, executive development, transition and succession planning, compensation analysis, individual coaching and organizational development.

He also will oversee Schnake Turnbo Frank's finance and operations areas.

Fulkerson, a Tulsa native, has 15 years of management consulting experience. Before Gabbard, he was the regional chief operating officer of Right Management Consultants. He has consulted Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, nonprofits, government organizations and other institutions.

"I'll be working with existing clients and bring in new clients also," Fulkerson said.

Firm President Russ Florence said the new practice is a "natural marriage" for Schnake Turnbo Frank, which has seen an increased demand for executive coaching and management consulting services.

"We see a real connection between an organization's performance and its PR capabilities," Florence said.

Fulkerson will be based in the company's Tulsa headquarters, but he also will work at the firm Oklahoma City office.

TU family business event to focus on conflict

The Monday, April 12 family business event at the University of Tulsa will focus on "Mastering Conflict in Family Business: Better Ways to Cooperate at Work."

Speaking will be Sylvia Lafair. She is president of CEO — Creative Energy Option, Inc., a global consulting company focused on optimizing workplace relationships through the PatternAware Leadership Model.

As an executive coach and leadership educator, Lafair has more than 30 years of experience with all levels of management from corporate officers of global companies to executives of nonprofits, owners of family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. She holds a doctorate in clinical psychology and has taught at Hahnemann University.

Lafair's also is the author of "Don't Bring it to Work. Breaking the Family Patterns That Limit Success."

AWC meeting to focus on enhancing image

The Wednesday, April 21 meeting of the Tulsa chapter of the Association for Women in Communications will tell how to enhance your image, maximize your best assets and uncover the best you.

Those will be some of the topics covered by Lisa K of Lisa K Style as she presents, "The Impact of Image and Appearance."

The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Philbrook Museum of Art, 2727 S. Rockford Road. Cost is $16 per AWC members, $20 per guests and $10 for students. Lunch is provided, and parking is free.

Lisa K is president and founder of Lisa K Style, a personal image consulting firm. She spent nearly two decades working with designers, dressing runway models and coordinating with retailers worldwide. She will share the importance of personal image, branding and appearance for succeeding in the work force.

AWC members are encouraged to bring a gently used suit on a hanger, preferably sizes 6 to 14 and plus sizes, for a donation to Resonance for Women Inc., which will give the suits to Dress for Success.

Spring career and contractor fair to be held

The Oklahoma Black Chamber of Commerce will hold its spring career and contractor fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 22 at the Tulsa Community College North Campus, 3727 E. Apache St. in the Seminar Center main building.

More than 20 corporate and contractor companies to scheduled to participate.

Harp's Foods wins award for produce department

Harp's Foods in Tulsa won the "Excellence in Produce Merchandising Award" for having the most outstanding produce department in 2009 from among more than 1,900 supermarkets serviced by Associated Wholesale Grocers. The award is presented to only one supermarket each year.

Harp's Foods won this award for its consistent quality and variety of fresh produce. More than 650 items are offered every day. The store maintains an 8-foot section dedicated to authentic Hispanic cooking favorites.

The award was presented to Roger Collins, president of Harp's Foods, at the Associated Wholesale Grocers recent annual shareholder's meeting in Kansas City.

Marketing workshops through social media scheduled

The Oklahoma City Women's Business Center of Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma Inc. has announced a series of workshops focused on marketing through social media.

The workshops are scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. each Thursday in April at the Meridian Technology Center, Room D110 in the Industrial Development Center, 1312 S. Sangre Road in Stillwater.

The workshops are designed for the beginner or advanced business to help it expand its markets and stretch its marketing dollars through the use of free social media sites. Workshop topics are: April 8 — "FaceBook for Your Business," April 15 — "LinkedIn for the Professional," April 22 — "Twitter for Your Business," and April 29 — "Beyond the Basics of FaceBook Fan Pages."

The series of workshops are co-sponsored by the Meridian Technology Center and REI's Women's Business Center, funded in part by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
